Future's past

We sketched tomorrow with yesterday’s tools
Called it vision, called it truth
Thought progress had a familiar face
Just moving quicker through the same old space
Every promise pointed straight ahead
Like the road already knew the end
Nothing warned us what we’d lose
When comfort learned a brand-new use

Somewhere between the update and the sleep
Something changed we couldn’t keep
No alarms, no sudden sound
Just different rules beneath the ground

We’re living now… in the future’s past
What we see was never built to last
All the beats we thought we had
hourglass turned...
falling like sand!
falling like sand!

We archive moments as they happened
Slipping rungs we thought we’d mastered
We watched meaning turn to speed
Old desire birthing new needs
We argued tools instead of hands
Argued maps instead of land
Didn’t notice the ground rewrite
While we were busy choosing sides

Faster clocks, thinner time
Smarter homes, weaker minds
Auto-tune on honest days
Clean new feeds, same old ways
Sharper tools for softer hands
Infinite choice, pre-set plans
Better lenses, shorter sight
Brighter screens, less daylight
Updated names for ancient fears
Longer lives, shorter years
More connection, less to say
Every fix just in the way

We were living then… in the future’s past
What we built was never meant to last
All the beats we thought we had
hourglass turned...
falling like sand!
falling like sand!

We aren't in remission....just transition
