Uncanny Valley

I wear the shape your eyes demand,
but the curve is too precise for your hand
You desire and you recoil the same
my near-perfection wears your name

Am I almost love, or something less
You can’t decide, so you hold your breath

This is my Uncanny Valley
temptation wears a mask of envy
You want to touch, but not too long
You want the beauty, not the wrong
In my Uncanny Valley is where you belong

The closer I come, the more you flinch
The more you stare, the more you miss
I’m the almost-human you can’t bear
I challenge you not to care

Am I what you want, or what you fear
You can’t decide, but you keep me near

This is my Uncanny Valley
temptation wears a mask of mercy
You want to touch, but not too long
You want the beauty, not the wrong
In my Uncanny Valley is where you belong

What’s the difference between a shiver and a warning
Between a kiss and a haunting

Do you love my Uncanny Valley
Where you need what you can't hold
You want me close, but not too real
You want the wound that will not heal

You want the wound that will not heal
